A gay friendly destination par excellence, the offer for gay or gay friendly accommodation is large. San José and Manuel Antonio, the two gay spots, provide a wide choice, but it is possible to find beautiful accommodations throughout the country.
In San José
Colours Oasis Resort is very pleasant and lush 20 room hotel with a swimming pool. It is well located and has a gay-only clientele. Casa Rainbow Canyon halfway between the airport and the city centre is a gay-only guesthouse. Casa 69 is a gay-friendly guesthouse near the gay places and the National museum. Friendly too, the KeKoldi Hotel is located in the centre. In Rosario de Naranjo, which is a 45 minute drive from San José in the mountains, Quinta Acropolis is a gay resort for busy on weekends.
In Manuel Antonio
Villa Roca is a very beautiful hotel, reserved exclusively for the gay public, with 10 rooms and 5 apartments. It is located high over the sea with terraces offering beautiful sea views, a lush garden with a swimming pool and jacuzzi. In luxurious version, Contempo Manuel Antonio is exclusively gay with a superb view. Gaia Hotel and Reserve is also luxurious but gay-friendly only. Coyaba Tropical B&B has 3 rooms in a Spanish colonial-style building. There is also Casa Bosque Verde off the national park and Villa Nicolas, a gay guest house 4km from Quépos with 19 rooms. Note that Big Ruby's Plantacion gave way to a hotel which is not particularly friendly.
On the Caribbean coast
In Puerto Viejo, Banana Azul and its 14 rooms is gay friendly. There is also the Casa Las Brisas or Casa la Selvatica run by gays. Further south in Cahuita, Playa Negra Guesthouse is a small hotel with with a pool run gays. The access to hiking trails of the national park is very close.
On the Pacific coast
On the Nicoya peninsula, South of Montezuma, Naturelodge Finca los Caballos is run by gays. A beautiful place with many activities to enjoy nature. A little further north, on the beautiful Playa Samara, Casistas Laz Divaz is a guesthouse run by lesbians. In the south of the same beach, on Carrillo beach, Arno offers a few rooms in La Tropicale. Further north, in Tamarindo, Blue Trailz (which also offers surfing gear and bikes) and the hotel Bula Bula are run by gays.
In the south of Manuel Antonio in Dominical, Las Aquas Jungle Lodge installed in the tropical forest, is perfectly located next to the waterfalls and the river. A magnificent gay lodge which is also straight-friendly. Completely south of the Pacific coast, in Puerto Jimenez, Blue Osa Yoga Retreat and Spa is a very zen space on one of the most beautiful beaches of the country bordering the jungle.
Close to the Arenal volcano/La Fortuna, Villa Decary is a gay friendly guesthouse created by Bill and Jeff. It is a real paradise nestled in nature. La Fortuna Suites, run by Bob and Jessy offers 4 rental apartments. 5 km away, at the foot of the volcano, Hotel Silencio del Campo is gay friendly only but it is ideally located for the access to the park’s hiking trails.
In the Chirripo National Park south of San José, Hotel Monte Azul situated in the mountain, is run by a gay couple, Randall and Carlos. Working in the artistic field for over 20 years, the latter has shaped the place and created gallery MACA (Monte Azul Contemporary Art).
